Thought I'd integrate a bit of my lifestyle into this Traynor YBA3 Custom Special demo. This amp is from 1971 - just a few years before "Sweet Home Alabama" came out. This is one of my favorite Skynyrd records - I love playing along to records when I'm learning new tunes. This amp needed a complete overhaul - a new quad of 6CA7 output tubes, filter capacitors, and some low voltage capacitors. E...

Nice
Alcohol would most likely kill him so alcohol is not a good thing to leave around, Amplifier Manufacturers are moving to DSP processing.
These amps were contracted out by Sears to Valco, Danelectro, Harmony, and others. They wanted them as cheap as possible, so "value engineering"' came into play. Most had a fixed speaker pig tail with a 1/4 plug hanging on the end. Many times the output transformer was just big enough, just. They were good intro level amps.
your dog won me. So lovely
While it is truly amazing that these capacitors still meet spec, we know that the paper capacitors are going acidic and the electrolytic ones are drying out. They may work now, but soon, this amp will be back on the bench to finish the recap. What is the point of keeping it original for may 2 or 3 more years...seriously we know these will fail and after 65 years this will be sooner, not later. Also the bias on the output tube should always be measured, as they were frequently set way too high. This was because a 6V6 could be had for three dollars back in the day. Now that good ones cost $47, it is worth the trouble to set it to the value in the tube manual. Even if this amp is seldom played, the "oh F---"moment when you plug it up, to show it off to a friend and the filters short and the fuse pops, is not worth it!
just put it this way all the best amps that Fender made in the 50s and 60s were made by women 🎸
Great Interview. Going to buy my next guitar there!
Hello, what is your favorite amplifier? Fender, Vox , Marshall ect....? thanks
Best video on the topic that I've seen. Thank you for this straightforward explanation.
love the john charette mention <3 hope he's well, think of him often!
John is good and we talk often!
can you do a close up shot of your dog's face on camera ❤
Wow, the tube amp sounds sweet,
There could be a tube rectifier in side and it might be low on emission..
Oh wow. I am in manhattan on vacation, might as well swing over
I've had younger folks that don't know what vacuum tubes are see some of my tube amps and radios for the first time. They react in amazed disbelief- like they've seen an alien from another world for the first time.
Pat is a upstanding guy who knows his stuff my main thing is older solidstate and tube audio gear !
I have been repairing and restoring audio and video gear since the 1980s !
Hells yes ! I loves me some Roy Buchanan !!! The greatest least known guitarist of all time!!
Liverpool UK
Thanks this was a fascinating discussion 🎸🎶🇬🇧
that stereo amp sounds amazaballs!
That was great!!
Awesome interview!!! More power to your business Pat!!! Staten Island native, living in North Carolina now.
How do you clean a circuit board when a capacitor leaks?
So great you teach to new generations 😀👋
I am crazy about Pat's creation! Fantastic Work!!! Thank you both for sharing everything with us.
How about the can capacitor...,..?
I remember.
Pretty nice. Nicer of you to mention Uncle Doug. He is great! Cheers!
Loved this great video!
Even over the internet you can tell that KT88 amp is something special. I'll bet it sounds really awesome when you are actually in the room listening to it.
That’s a beautiful Golden Eagle CB up on the shelf 😊
Great interview!
I really enjoyed this video ,Ill have to say being retired now that I will stick to fixing guitars and fixing my own amps ,I used to sell NOS tubes but stopped years ago and im glad I did because of unreliable new tubes these days ,I just subbed to Pats you tube channel so thankyou for that Colleen
Sounds like a cool place and dude. Started following Pat now.
Good Show! Consider to show some tools in a supplemental if possible.
Tube amp techs are so loved by me!❤
THERES VAPE TOOBES!?
Rad!!!
Tab Benoit being interviewed by Premier Guitar: "I don't know why y'all are talking to me, I ain't got but the one guitar and the two amps. The guitar and the amps are just tools to get the song out to the audience".
" The thing about music is, it's supposed to sound good". David Lindley
That's a good story how you met your wife, I had a hot typing teacher that I always somehow had problems so she would come help me with my typewriter.
Wonder if you know Dave Hirsh from New Jersey? He's like the go-to amp tech guy here. A great character and extremely knowledgeable, his shop is up in Whippany. I was last there a few years ago with issues with a 5150. There's just one small path to the front counter and the back room and the rest of the place is just filled with amps from floor to ceiling. Took him a month to finally fix my amp, not just because he was bombarded with work but because he loves to talk to anybody that comes in and doesn't give himself enough time to actually work lol. He'd be great for one of these interviews. I believe he used to work for Fender prior to opening up his own shop.
Awesome chat from awesome channels !
Great video.
As a guitar player for over 50 years, I truly appreciate what you techs do!
I've been playing for 51 years myself and my first amp was a mono block hifi that my dad built in 1955. I got my first 100w Marshall stack in 1978 and I was a;ready obsessed with rolling tubes by then. At my age I obviously have learned to maintain my arsenal of heads myself to a certain extent but I have to leave it the dedicated authoritarians like Colleen if I am to be so lucky. I can stand and play to a packed crowd here in Memphis but I'm too shy to ask her to fix my Silvertone. Haha
Thank you uncle doug
He is our king!
A very likable person, I share the passion for vacuum tubes and tube devices. With amateur radio, we have a common hobby. A very moving story.
“Brooklyn” is not williamsburg. To be fair, as the most diverse place on earth you need years to get to know it.
I’m so grateful that Pat has lived there for many many years, and showed me all his favorite spots :)
